• IBSSA in action. On this page you will find information about issues, concerns and projects affecting Indian Beach Sapphire Shores, some history about those issues, what the board, committees and neighbors  are trying to accomplish and opportunities to help keep our neighborhood the finest in Sarasota.

7-11 Proposal: The 7-11 construction proposed for Myrtle and Tamiami Trail will go back before the Development Review Committee (DRC) on May 6; exact time on the Agenda will not be known until about a week out. DRC begins at 9am.

Below find the full second submission by the developer answering the questions and issue of the first submission. It does include a narrative as well as drawings updated to 4.7.26.  If you have time to review the issue you intend to protest, you will see how the developer plans to proceed.

On a sad note, 10 large trees would be removed, including one 'grand tree' for which they will be requesting an exemption. The only trees remaining will be on the south border with the plaza.

  • IBSSA has been working with the city and the CCNA on traffic calming. The good news is that the city is taking action and has a plan (see below). The next step is for public support to drive this topic as a priority to convince the city to budget the many options.

    What is Traffic Calming?
Traffic calming is a set of roadway treatments engineers can take that alter driver behavior and reduce the negative impacts motorists can have on pedestrians and cyclists. Traffic calming can help to reduce speed, vehicle crashes, and in turn increase pedestrian and bicyclist usage.

    These measures can include:

    Horizontal Deflections (roundabouts, traffic circle)
Vertical Deflections (speed tables, raised intersections)
Street Width Reduction (median islands, on-street parking)
    Routing Restrictions (median barriers, splitters)
Education and enforcement are also considered to be traffic calming measures but should be used in conjunction with physical measures when possible.
